How to Set Up 2FA on Bybit

Install an authenticator app, link it to your Bybit account, and save the backup key on paper. Use the app instead of SMS where possible. Without a backup, losing your phone can lock you out.

What 2FA is

Two-factor authentication (2FA) asks for a second proof, a short code, on top of your password. Even if someone steals your password, they cannot log in without the code.

Authenticator app or SMS?

Authenticator app SMS code
Works without network Yes No
Risk from SIM swap fraud Low Higher
Easy to set up Yes Yes

SIM swap fraud means a criminal gets your number moved to a new SIM and receives your texts. For this reason, an authenticator app is the better main option. Where SMS is the only choice, protect your SIM with your network provider.

Steps

  1. Install an authenticator app from the official app store (for example Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator). Bybit's help pages refer to Google Authenticator, and standard authenticator apps work the same way.
  2. In Bybit, open your account's Security settings.
  3. Choose the authenticator option and scan the QR code.
  4. Enter the six-digit code to confirm. From now on, Bybit will also ask for a code when you withdraw, which is one more reason to set this up before you deposit.
  5. Write down the backup key shown on screen on paper and keep it somewhere safe. Do not take a screenshot or store it in your notes app.

Backup and phone loss

If you lose your phone and have no backup, you may need to go through Bybit's recovery process, which can take time and extra verification. Contact Bybit only through the official app or website. See also What to Do If You Lose Your Phone.
